Sustainability & Scotts:

Paving the way for a sustainable future

1. A published, communicated environmental policy.
This illustrates the commitment by the company and its senior management to achieve a working environmental management system. Moreover, we examine the impact of our products, activities and services at regular intervals and as a result of these reviews, we set goals and objectives to ensure we continue to maintain these standards in the future.

2. Accreditation with ISO 14001.
The site where Scotts controlled release fertilizers are manufactured, in Heerlen, Holland was accredited with ISO 14001 in 2002. This accreditation demonstrates that Scotts has actively found ways to reduce its environmental footprint and carbon emissions.

3. Seveso II Directive compliance.
Scotts produces its fertilizers for European use at a Seveso II Directive compliant factory. Rejects and dust produced during manufacture are systematically reworked to ensure any environmental pollution risks are absolutely minimised.

4. Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) accreditation.
HACCP is a systematic preventative approach to food, pharmaceutical and organic product safety.
It addresses physical, chemical and biological hazards and relies on the identification of critical control points.
Having HACCP accreditation satisfies the Environmental Health Department that products are free from pathogenic bacteria such as E-Coli, Listeria and Salmonella. Because these pathogens could potentially cause harm to humans during or after the application of organic products. At Scotts we ensure that our organic-based fertilizers are produced using rigorous standards at HACCP accredited sites.
